The entire town of Lisbon, Maryland, which is situated in western Howard County, is only about one square mile. The first roundabout ever to be built in Maryland is located in Lisbon. The town of Lisbon has several volunteer positions such as helping out at a few different Horse Rescue farms and working with a Volunteer Fire Company.
Caleb Pancoast founded the town of New Lisbon, which was later shortened to Lisbon, in 1810. In 1820, land was deeded for the Union Church to be built on. In 1822, the remaining land was split into 100 quarter acre lots. The National Road, which was marked at the beginning for over 100 years by a granite stone in Cumberland, Maryland, runs north through Lisbon towards Woodbine, Maryland.
