 The entire town of Lisbon, Maryland, which is situated in western Howard County, is only about one square mile. The first roundabout ever to be built in Maryland is located in Lisbon. The town of Lisbon has several volunteer positions such as helping out at a few different Horse Rescue farms and working with a Volunteer Fire Company.

Caleb Pancoast founded the town of New Lisbon, which was later shortened to Lisbon, in 1810. In 1820, land was deeded for the Union Church to be built on. In 1822, the remaining land was split into 100 quarter acre lots. The National Road, which was marked at the beginning for over 100 years by a granite stone in Cumberland, Maryland, runs north through Lisbon towards Woodbine, Maryland. In 1811, toll roads were built to connect it to Baltimore.

Lisbon shares its 21797 zip code with the nearby city of Woodbine, Maryland. The population is about 7,473 residents and the racial demographics are 7,095 white people, 231 black people, 16 American Indian and Alaska natives, 58 Asian people, 2 Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islanders, 41 Mixed people and 5 people of some other race. Just under 50% of the residents are female and just over 50% of the residents are men. 3.5% of the Lisbon population have no high school education, 3.9% have some high school education, 26.6 have some college education, 7.3% have their associates degrees, 31.9% have received bachelor’s degrees, and 26.8% have received graduate’s degrees. 61% of Lisbon residents are currently married, 26.9% have never been married, and the remaining percentage is occupied by people who are either separated, widowed, or divorced. The median income for different age groups is $73,500 per year for someone under the age of 25, $91,447 per year for someone between the ages of 25 and 44, $134,125 per year for someone between the ages of 45 and 64, and $84,062 per year for someone over the age of 64.

Mount Airy Christian Academy is a private school with the goals to help parents raise their children to be good adults, to help students learn at the proper rate, and to help students develop good health and personal fitness habits.


There are a good number of landmarks to visit in the Lisbon, Maryland area. Schifferstadt Architectural Museum has been around for 250 years and is also the headquarters of the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation or FCLF. The Strawbridge Shire is a farmhouse where Methodism was first established in America.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC and Lafayette Square are two more places to visit while you’re in the area.
